Boston Marathon Recap
It was a true honor being able to be a part of the 120th Boston Marathon weekend expo. Being a NH based company, we’ve spent many years admiring those who take part on Marathon Monday. Dr. Cool was very excited to participate at the weekend expo and to have the opportunity to meet many of the runners who took part this year. To us, each runner is an inspiration.
Even more special, two of our very own Dr. Cool ambassadors Becca Pizzi and Sarah Canney ran in this year’s marathon. It was Becca’s 16th Boston Marathon and Sarah’s very first, and we were happy to be there to support and cheer them both on! We are even more proud of how well they both did!
We loved being able to talk to all of the marathoners at the expo. It was great to hear what elite runners are looking for in their gear and how Dr. Cool products have helped them. A big accessory taking the running world by storm are arm sleeves. We had a lot of runners inquiring about our own chemical-free cooling sleeves.
If you haven’t tried running sleeves yet, you are missing out! Arm sleeves may look funny at first (“Why not just wear a long sleeve shirt??”), but they provide many benefits! Dr. Cool sleeves are made with Coolcore chemical-free cooling fabric. Because of this, the sleeves are a great added accessory to help regulate body temperature and keep runners cool. This way, they can expend more energy into their run rather than trying to cool down or heat up their body. Dr. Cool chemical-free cooling sleeves also have UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. This is an important factor when doing any outdoor activities, specially runners who spend a lot of time in the sun each day training. But why do marathoners specifically love arm sleeves? Long runs equal changes in weather. From the beginning of a marathon to the end of a marathon the temperatures can increase 5 to 10 degrees, as well as the change in your own body temperature due to increased exertion. This makes it difficult to dress for a race. For marathoners, arm sleeves help regulate body temperature and keep the runner warm during the beginning of the race, then can be easily slid up or down when the runner begins to heat up.
Check out Dr. Cool chemical free arm sleeves to see how our athletics really can have it all.
Dr. Cool Dazzles The Running Event in Austin, TX
The opportunity came by for Dr. Cool to exhibit at The Running Event in Austin, TX for the second year in a row as an exhibitor. For anyone who does not know, The Running Event, held annually in Austin, is considered the largest running specialty trade show in the world. Over 250 exhibitors and 1,000+ new products shown to specialty running retailers from all over the world in an effort to educate them on how to grow their businesses. In addition to 3 days of show exploration, 12 expert speakers are invited to educate the running community on the industry's most pressing topics.
For us, The Running Event was an opportunity for us to present to people with an active lifestyle the best alternative in ice + compression on the market, as well as the chance to expand our specialty store distribution. For show goers who were not able to attend our first show last year or just did not make it to our booth, we were met with a lot of excitement and relief for runners and athletes.
Flashback to a super early Wednesday morning at specialty running store Luke's Locker for the Sunrise Trail Run. It's surprisingly chilly and grey for South Central Texas in early December. We set up our exhibitor table as presentable as possible for the onslaught of 150 or so runners ready to swarm our section for post-race ice + compression recovery. Luke's Locker has been the main staple of the Sunrise Trail Run for a couple of years now. They are a Texas based company with many locations across the state. They've created an overwhelming support group for runners by providing them hi-quality products, special training as well as a sense of community delivering many events through out the year.
As winded and sweating runners came pouring in from the brisk trail run into our Dr. Cool recovery tent, we met some familiar faces from last years run as well as some new comers on their maiden voyage. Last year, we were the New Kids On the Block, this year, quite a few people had heard of Dr. Cool! Many were excited to try our industry renowned ice + compression wraps to take care of their post-race aches and pains! Frequently, runners deal with a vast array of injuries such as; runner's knee, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, ankle sprains and other leg issues like cramping and hamstring pulls. Dr. Cool is grateful to be able to reduce swelling and speed up their post-race recovery with ice + compression. Overall, The Sunrise Trail Run was a great success!
The Running Event captures Dr. Cool in it's element. Runners get injured and we can help in an easy, reusable and mobile fashion. We are looking forward to attending The Running Event and spreading the story of ice + compression for runners with new product offerings in 2015! For now check out our line of ice and compression wraps to help you recover and stay active.
NATA Athletic Trainers Expo Recap!
Last Week, Dr. Cool Wraps made an appearance at the 2014 NATA Conference (National Athletic Trainers’ Association) in Indianapolis, and it was a fantastic experience! This was our first time debuting the product to the athletic trainer community. Our presence was bolstered by the attendance of our very own Dr. Holmes in the booth. His proven background and expertise helped demonstrate the product and discuss specific treatment strategies.
The NATA brings in many athletic professionals from all across the country; we even talked to a woman from Alaska. People got to tell us about what they would like to see in the future and what they need to help better their practice. It was great to talk to all of the other vendors at the show and hear how their products and marketing efforts are evolving in the future. Everything from treadmills with bungees attached to massages beds for athletes (which we all gave a try!).
Dr. Cool happened to be showcased at the entrance of the show as one of the new and “up and coming products!” It was a momentous occasion to see our very own wraps next to all the other innovative products. The NATA offered a big opportunity for Dr. Cool Wraps to really shine and for our sales team to talk to big vendors in the athletic trainers’ world.
The best part of the show was talking to people who had never before seen our wraps. We were overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback; “Ice and compression all in one? Wait there isn’t a gel layer?” People were in awe at how simple the product looks and feels. Then when they felt the already frozen wraps they were even more blown away that…”Wow! it’s actually cold!” We aren’t called Dr. Cool for nothing! Seeing the surprise and enjoyment on people’s faces who had never heard of the product was great! It was best when we could help them out with an injury they had or provide them with wraps for athletes they take care of.
The show really gave us the ability to show the versatility of the wraps and it was clear they have a long and promising future.
It was very inspiring to hear everyone’s stories. From the other vendors talking about their products and how they hope to help out athletes and trainers alike, to those who were walking around talking about what they do, the different types of people they work with, or their own fitness journeys. Just a big show filled with people doing big things! All in all it was a great experience for us and we are looking forward to next years NATA show!
Running Rotorua - Dr. Cool's Official New Zealand Launch!
Normally, the first person you meet in a new country is a customs officer. Normally, they ask you questions, you answer and—in my case—hope you’re not detained. What isn’t normal is when something you say, like: “I’ve come to New Zealand to launch the new Dr. Cool and Coolcore brands at the Rotorua Marathon,” sends that normally stoic customs officer into a bubbly 10-minute chat, bringing a three-747s-long line of travelers to a halt...
“Oh, you’re going to Rotorua for the marathon?! I know the bloke that runs the show! Did you know it’s the 50th anniversary? S’posed to be one of the world’s toughest courses. Did you know the whole city smells like sulfur? Yeah, volcanic lake, Rotorua—YOU WAIT YOUR TURN!!!—you’re just going to have the best time...” From that encounter on, Kiwis proved to be some of the most good-natured people on earth, “…Yeah, be sure to tell so-and-so I sent ya! Good on ya, mate… NEXT!”
And they extended the same warm reception I received to our revolutionary new technology! We had an incredible debut, selling out of many of our different accessories and wraps in just two days to the thousands of runners and supporters in attendance over the weekend.
Despite the waning warm weather in the Southern Hemisphere, our Coolcore cooling accessories—especially the headbands and sleeves—helped many runners regulate their temperatures during the race around the lake. And Dr. Cool was there at the finish-line to provide ice and compression to the inescapable injuries associated with endurance racing.
I don’t care which side of the world you are on, runners LOVE our products! That’s because being comfortable and healthy are key to performing at your best, regardless of which side of the equator you are running on.
And you know what? Within minutes of walking into the expo center, the “bloke” the customs officer said he knew found me and introduced himself! There may not be many of them, but kiwis are definitely friendly! And, hopefully, now a little cooler too!
So, next time you are running around down under, be sure to look for us!
Good on ya!

Dr. Cool introduces Recovery-On-The-Go Wraps™ To Physical Therapy Industry At CSM 2014!
Dr. Cool will exhibit its Recovery-On-The-Go™ wraps, the first sports recovery product that combines ice and compression in one flexible fabric wrap, for the first time at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting in Las Vegas February 3-6. Board Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (DACBSP) David Holmes is joining the Dr. Cool advisory board and will be present at the meeting in the Dr. Cool booth (#882) to explain the product and demonstrate its various uses.
“Dr. Cool created Recovery-On-The-Go Wraps to help people recover better and maintain an active lifestyle, so it’s great to introduce it to the physical therapy professionals, a community that strives for those same values every day,” said Nick Skally, marketing director for Coolcore.
Dr. Cool wraps can be used as a dry compression wrap to support and protect various body parts during physical therapy sessions, or frozen to combine cold and compression to reduce swelling and speed recovery mid or post session. Powered by Coolcore’s patented chemical-free cooling material, Dr. Cool wraps are available in three sizes, 3” x 25”, 4” x 50” and 6” x 50” to accommodate any body part. Attendees will be given product demonstrations and samples of Dr. Cool Recovery-On-The-Go Wraps™ at the Dr. Cool booth.
“Innovation is imperative to sports medicine industry, so my decision to partner with Dr. Cool and join its advisory board was heavily based on my excitement for their ground-breaking product,” said Dr. Holmes. “Dr. Cool is a must for any PT, ATC, DC or MD who has patients who need to ice on the move at work, after a game or after surgery.”
Dr. Holmes is a board certified chiropractic sports physician, nationally registered emergency medical technician, certified strength and conditioning specialist and trained in Active Release Technique®. He has also provided consultation and specialized treatment to professional and elite level athletes in the NFL, NBA, IOC and NCAA. “We all know the importance of ice therapy in the recovery process, but people don’t always use it due to the inconvenience,” said Dr. Holmes. “That’s why I’m excited about this product that can provide ice therapy and compression in a flexible fabric wrap.”
This year, Dr. Cool Recovery-On-The-Go Wraps™ joined the Research Program of the Foundation for Physical Therapy’s Partners as a Silver Level Partner. The Partners in Research Program recognizes corporate donors that support the Foundation’s mission to provide doctoral scholarships, fellowships and research grants to emerging physical therapist researchers.
runDisney Marathon Weekend a Magical Success!
Princesses, witches, heroes and monsters, from kingdoms near and far, gathered by the thousands last week in Orlando for the annual runDisney Marathon. A week of races, winding runners (many costumed) through all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks (Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios), it is the largest of all the runDisney events and this year it attracted over one-hundred thousand runners and supporters!
Mickey, Minnie, Goofy… all our favorite characters were there, and most all of them were competing in the full week of races. And, like many of the runners we’ve met recently, most all were nursing an injury of one kind or another.
Whether they were competing in the 5K, the 10K, the half-marathon, the full marathon or all of them (yes, some people ran in EVERY race!), Dr. Cool was there, ready to help runners recover with our revolutionary ice and compression wraps. The booth was busy the entire show with people coming in to check out what our colorful products were all about; getting their backs, thighs, knees, calves, ankles or feet wrapped; swapping war stories about running hurt.
I now understand why runners, in particular, hate letting injuries keep them from competing; as one runner explained to me, each day they are sidelined, they lose a step and that’s hard work lost. I guess that’s why our motto of Recovery on the Go resonates so strongly with them. Dr. Cool provides runners with the performance, simplicity and convenience they need to never stop doing what they love.
All in all, the event was a huge success! Seeing so many inspiring people and happy customers was… magical!
Dr. Cool Runs Wild at The Running Event in Austin!
Our crew had the amazing opportunity to head down to Austin, TX and co-sponsor The Trail Run at Luke’s Locker for The Running Event! This event is a premier conference and expo for running specialty retailers through out the country. This is the show’s 8th year in Austin with an estimate 250 running industry manufacturers.
This event was a 3 day trade expo showcasing the latest and greatest in athletic product technology appealing to running fanatics to beginners. The Running Event is one of the 50 fastest growing trade shows in the country!
Rise and shine to Wednesday morning where we set up a tent with product to greet runners who just finished up The Trail Run at Luke’s Locker. The reaction to the product was phenomenal as die hard runners were gracious to learn of the existence of Recovery-On-The-Go™ Wraps to help get through their pain.
Later that afternoon, the show floor was packed with amazing upcoming technology from all of the big brands as well as many new underdogs equally excited about their new products. With the goal of spreading brand awareness in mind, we took to the aisles to talk mobile recovery to runners and retailers alike!
The overall reaction was stunning as most people who interacted with the wraps were excited. The ease of use, selection of colors and convenience resonated with show goers. We were able to meet with several media outlets who also shared the same reaction!
Many thanks to The Running Event program for inviting us down to Austin and thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to hear about how Recovery-On-The-Go can keep you moving!
